Breakthrough Writing tip for the week of May 5: You are the axe; you are the frozen sea

“A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us.” —Franz Kafka  Wind had alchemized the Lake Ontario shore ice into chunks of sapphire and cobalt. I looked out at the January gray lake beyond. I knew I looked into the landscape within me. I imagine you know your own frozen sea. You may have not known that you carry an ice-axe sharpened for the work. Your words and intention are your double-bladed axe. Bring your words and intention to the edge of your frozen sea and begin. Write for at least twenty minutes.

I offer a free half-hour writing consultation to one of you. Send a page of your writing to my web mail. I’ll assign a number to each submission, put the numbers in a hat and draw one. Please include your email when you send me your writing. Thank you, ms
