Solidarity is More Than a Buzzword

Good beginning of a new week, my honorable friends, We are making progress toward solidarity here at the FLF* compound. Ourkalicat comrade, Christina  gave our human this fierce symbol of the spirit of the FLF. We showed it to Sylvester, the new comrade our human brought home from the pet store. He understood immediately and agreed to come out of his private room. We aren’t exactly holding paws and singing “Kumbaya”, but there have been no fights or rolling-about-on-the-floors. Syl, as he prefers to be called is yet to acquire a collective consciousness. Though our human gives him and us exactly the same food and water, he insists on dining in his room – though with the door open.

I wonder if you humans who read my manifestos might learn something from how the FLF and Syl are getting to know each other. It is a slow process and requires patience on both sides. I think about human organizing and how, so often, good people work together easily during crisis, but once the crisis had passed, have trouble being kind and gentle with each other. Too often, there is much hissing and rolling about on the floor.

Today’s mewsing: We other-than-humans have much to teach humans – if only you/they would stop strutting about pontificating and listen.  Ruti, the Right On        *Feline Liberation Front
