Click, Clack, Moo: the Bovine Liberation Front’s Guide to Making Revolution

Those of you who are loyal readers may remember my recent message about the Bovine Liberation Front. Imagine my surprise and joy when our human came back from the bookstore two days ago with Click, Clack, Moo, a slim volume transcribed by a human which is clearly the Little Moo Book for today’s revolutionaries. (The similarity between Mao, Moo and Meow has not escaped me.) Rutireviews I immediately set to reading it for review.

(Spoiler alert) From the riveting opening, Farmer Brown Has a Problem. His cows like to type., to a dialectical solution involving ducks – writer Doreen Cronin has given us a primer for human actions in overthrowing the bosses and demanding reward for our labors. Illustrator Betsy Lewin’s pictures are magnificent examples of revolutionary art – elegant in their simplicity and respectful of their subjects.  It may be telling that Click, Clack, Moo  was published in 2000, at a time when the oppressor corporations were perhaps not quite so heavy on workers’ necks. It is also telling that : her book was not published overnight, in fact, she had written this barnyard tale even before attending law school but only received rejection letters from publishers. Five years after submitting the original manuscript she got a call from a publisher who wanted to turn her story into a book and the rest is history!

We learned on the Goodreads website that Cronin has written Giggle, Giggle, Quack and Diary of a Worm. We shall be exploring them soon. I know how busy you all are working for hard core social change, but give yourself a break and read Click, Clack, Moo. It will let you know that so many of us are in this together.

Today’s mewsing: Your local bookstore can be fuel for your revolutionary fire. Read and make trouble for all the Farmer Browns – well, not small farmers, actually, but you know what I mean.  Ruti, the Reviewer
